Peak crowds
June is one of Turtuk's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Peak Jun–Aug when high-altitude passes open; closed Dec–Apr by deep snow and extreme cold.
June at Turtuk is the village at full summer operation. Daytime 20-23C, nights 4-7C, monthly rainfall under 15mm. Apricot fruit forms on trees through the first three weeks; first ripe fruit available from the last week of June. The orchards that line every village pathway are at their lushest green. Khardung La pass is fully open with reliable conditions. The Diskit-Turtuk road (90km, 2.5-3 hours via Hunder, Skuru, Bogdang) is at its smoothest. Homestays — Ahmad Family, Maha Guesthouse, Lhakhang Polo Guesthouse, Turtuk Holiday Resort, plus small family-run rooms — at 80 percent occupancy. Book 2 weeks ahead. The Yagbo Royal Palace (the small museum-residence of the former royal family of Yagbo, kept by the descendants), the Polo Ground, the Mosque, the village ecology walks (irrigation channels are ingenious and beautiful), the cross-river walk to the abandoned Pakistani-side Turtuk before 1971 — all in full season. Friday namaaz limits 12:30-1:30pm village access. ILP from lahdclehpermit.in 24-hour processing. 2-3 nights stay strongly recommended.
