Road access closes due to heavy snow and extreme cold from November through March
December at Turtuk is full winter. Daytime peaks at 0-3C, nights drop to -10 to -16C, the surrounding Karakoram peaks dusted in snow. Khardung La pass remains firmly closed (and stays so until late May). The Diskit-Turtuk road is buried under accumulating snow. Civilian access is zero. The village runs on stored apricots, walnuts, dried meat, and the centuries-old village economy. Homestays closed. The Mosque continues Friday namaaz, the Polo Ground sits under snow, the orchards are bare. The Yagbo descendants run their winter routines. Visitor tourism does not reach Turtuk in December. The first viable window of next year is approximately May 25-30.
