Khardung La in June
Ladakh, India
Peak crowds
June is one of Khardung La's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Motorable high pass busy Jun–Sep when snow clears; winter (Nov–Mar) road closure prevents vehicle access.
June at Khardung La is full peak season. Daytime at the pass 8-10C, nights -5 to -2C, the road in its smoothest condition of the year. The Inner Line Permit (₹400+₹100 for Indians) processes through lahdclehpermit.in in 24 hours. The Nubra Valley circuit beyond the pass — Diskit (the Diskit Monastery and the 32m Maitreya statue), Hunder (the double-humped Bactrian camel safaris on the white sand dunes), Sumur (apricot blossom-fruit transition village), Panamik (the hot springs), and the onward Turtuk run to the LoC — is at full operation. Diskit hotels (Hotel Lchang Nang, Mystique Meadows) at 85-90 percent occupancy. The Ladakh Festival in early September is months away but June already has the biking community at full strength: Royal Enfield rentals from Leh start at ₹1,500/day with deposit. Acclimatisation gating: spend at least 48 hours at Leh (3,500m) before driving up. The South Pulu and North Pulu army cafes provide oxygen for AMS cases. Visitor stay at the pass: 20-30 minutes max recommended.
