June Drass is the valley at its most alive. The meadows around the town bloom with Himalayan wildflowers, the Dras River runs full and blue-green, and the War Memorial in summer light — with green grass, clear sky, and the peaks of Tololing and Tiger Hill visible behind — provides the most complete Kargil War experience. The highway traffic is steady, and Drass's small market serves travellers heading to Kargil (60 km) and Leh (230 km). The surrounding peaks, many unnamed and unclimbed, offer trekking possibilities that nobody has commercialised. Rooms: ₹800-2,500/night.
