Prashar Lake in March
Himachal Pradesh, India
Trail becomes a treacherous mix of slush, ice, and exposed mud in early thaw season
March brings the first thaw to Prashar. Snow recedes from the lower oak forests but clings stubbornly to the meadows above 2,500m. The trail is a mess of mud, snowmelt streams, and black ice patches hidden under wet leaves.
The March story
The lake starts to show dark water at its edges as the ice breaks up — dramatic to photograph but the floating island is still partially trapped. The pagoda temple emerges from its snow shroud. Doable for experienced trekkers who do not mind wet boots and route-finding through patchy snow.
