Prashar Lake in August
Himachal Pradesh, India
Peak monsoon transforms the trail into a muddy slog with zero visibility
August is Prashar at its most hostile. Rainfall peaks, the trail from Bagi is a waterfall in places, and the road up from Mandi faces daily landslide closures. The lake is shrouded in impenetrable mist.
The August story
Even locals avoid the trek in August. The leeches are relentless through the forest section, visibility at the lake hovers around 20 metres, and the floating island is a rumour in the fog. There is no emergency evacuation possible if the road closes. Wait for September.
