Prashar Lake in May
Himachal Pradesh, India
Go in May — peak visibility of Dhauladhar range, comfortable camping temperatures, and green meadows are at their best. Snow has cleared but nights still require warm gear.
Peak crowds
May is one of Prashar Lake's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Alpine lake accessible Apr–May for spring trek and Sep–Oct for autumn; snow-in Dec–Feb makes it inaccessible to most trekkers.
May is Prashar at its finest. The 8km trail from Bagi winds through oak forest dappled with sunlight, opens to meadows carpeted in wild iris and buttercup, and delivers you to a lake so still the pagoda temple reflects perfectly on its surface.
The May story
The floating island sits in deep blue water surrounded by snow-capped Dhauladhar peaks. Temperatures are perfect — warm enough to sit outside after sunset, cool enough to sleep soundly in a tent. The forest rest house and temple courtyard bustle gently with a handful of trekkers and pilgrims. This is the month that makes people fall in love with Prashar.
