Good Time
Rishikesh in February
Uttarakhand, India
February Rishikesh starts warming up and the town shifts gear. Temperatures climb to 8-22°C — mornings still need a jacket, but afternoons are genuinely comfortable. The Ganges remains low and clear. Rafting is excellent: water temperature is rising, rapids are consistent, and the rafting operators are hungry for business before the March rush. The International Yoga Festival at Parmarth Niketan starts its buildup — early registrations, visiting teachers arriving, the ashram buzzing with preparation energy. This is the month where Rishikesh transitions from winter quiet to spiritual-tourism season.
The February story
February is a smart Rishikesh pick because you get pre-festival energy without festival prices. The yoga studios in Tapovan are running full schedules with smaller classes — 8-12 students where March will have 25-30. Rafting operators offer their best deals: ₹800-1,200 for the full 16km stretch versus ₹1,500-2,000 in peak season. The Ganges beaches (Shivpuri, Byasi) are empty enough to sit alone on the sand. Beatles Ashram has 20-30 visitors instead of October's 200. Ram Jhula at sunset with the aarti bells starting from both banks and the river gold beneath you — this works in any month, but February's emptiness lets you actually stand still and absorb it. Neelkanth Temple trek is at its best: warm enough to be comfortable, cool enough that the 12km doesn't punish you. Bungee jumping at Jumpin Heights is fully operational with no queues. The cafe scene in Tapovan — German Bakery, Little Buddha, Freedom Cafe — has steady customers but open tables. AIIMS is 15 minutes away. The one thing February lacks is the cultural event calendar — March brings the Yoga Festival, October brings the post-monsoon rush. February is Rishikesh without an event, which is either perfect or boring depending on what you came for.
