Peak Season
Doodhpathri in May
Jammu & Kashmir, India
May opens Doodhpathri to its full beauty. Temperatures: 8-20°C. The meadows are entirely green, wildflowers carpet every slope, and the milky streams run at full volume through the valley floor. Pony rides operate, picnic groups arrive from Srinagar, and the valley buzzes with weekend visitors.
The May story
May Doodhpathri is one of Kashmir's most beautiful experiences that most Kashmiri tourism ignores. The valley stretches for kilometres, and you can walk for an hour in any direction without hitting a fence, a building, or a road. Streams require fording — the water is cold enough to make you gasp. Horse rides to upper meadows (₹500-1,000) access flower-covered slopes with panoramic views. Pack a picnic from Srinagar — there are a few basic food stalls at the entrance but nothing inside the valley. The lack of commercialisation is both Doodhpathri's greatest asset and the reason it stays unknown. Day trips from Srinagar only; no overnight facilities.
