Snow arrival cuts the trekking window to early October before conditions deteriorate
October at Chandratal is the wind-down month. Tent camps (Parasol, Spiti Adventure, et al) remove their tent infrastructure between October 5-10; after that there is no overnight stay available at the lake. Daytime in the basin 5-10C, nights -8 to -3C. Kunzum Pass takes its first significant snowfall around October 15-20 and the BRO begins flagging the Manali-Gramphu stretch for winter closure (full closure typically October 25-30). The Kaza side remains accessible for day-trips a week or two longer (Kaza itself stays open year-round via the Shimla-Reckong Peo winter route). The first 7-10 days of October are workable if camps are pre-booked, but waiting for next June is the cleaner play. Acclimatisation requirements unchanged: 48+ hours at Kaza (3,800m) before going to 4,300m.
