Srinagar in April
Jammu & Kashmir, India
Go in April — Tulip Garden peaks in bloom, daytime temps hover at 15–22°C, and Mughal gardens are lush; evening temperatures drop, so carry layers.
Peak crowds
April is one of Srinagar's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Tulip Festival (Apr) is insanely crowded. Winter is magical but cold. Check security situation before booking.
April is peak Srinagar. The Indira Gandhi Tulip Garden — Asia's largest with 1.5 million tulips across 30 hectares — opens in the first week, and the entire valley explodes with colour. Temperatures hit a perfect 10-20°C. The Mughal Gardens (Shalimar, Nishat, Chashme Shahi) are in full bloom. This is the single busiest month — expect 200,000+ visitors, with the Tulip Festival alone pulling 150,000 in two weeks. Hotel prices peak. Book 45-60 days ahead or pay double.
The April story
If you only visit Kashmir once, April makes the strongest case. Dal Lake is mirror-calm most mornings, the shikaras are flower-decorated for the festival, and every garden is bursting. The Tulip Garden charges Rs 75 entry and is genuinely worth it — rows of Dutch tulips against Zabarwan mountain backdrop. Shalimar Bagh looks like a Mughal painting come alive. The houseboat experience is at its best — warm enough to sit on the deck, cool enough to sleep without AC. Wazwan restaurants are fully operational and the seekh kababs at Ahdoos are legendary. The catch: everything is crowded. Dal Gate traffic backs up for an hour at peak times. Shikara rates jump to Rs 800-1,200/hour (vs Rs 300 in winter). But the beauty is undeniable. All connectivity works perfectly — 4G everywhere, both hospitals fully staffed for tourist season.
Why April scores 10.0/10
