Har Ki Doon in February
Uttarakhand, India
Deep snow makes upper camps inaccessible without mountaineering experience and gear
February at Har-Ki-Doon remains in deep winter. Daytime at Sankri 4-7C, nights -8 to -12C; at the Har-Ki-Doon campground (3,566m) daytime peaks at -3C and nights drop to -25C. The 25km trek from Taluka through Osla to Har-Ki-Doon valley is buried under heavy snow — operators rate February as the most difficult month for the route. Sankri itself is reachable from Dehradun (210km, 9-10 hours via Mussoorie-Kempty-Naugaon, 4×4 needed for the last 30km in heavy snow). The handful of GMVN-affiliated winter expedition operators run February departures on private requests only — full mountaineering setup, 10-12 day timelines. Mainstream visitors do not attempt February. The trek opens commercially in late March / early April, weather-dependent.
