December at Har-Ki-Doon is the early-winter shutdown. Daytime at Sankri 6-8C, nights -5 to -10C; at the Har-Ki-Doon meadow daytime 0-5C, nights -15 to -22C. The trail is under accumulating snow from early December — the upper meadow campsite holds 2-4 feet of snow by month-end. Mainstream operators (Indiahikes, Bikat, Himalayan Hikers, Trek The Himalayas, Trekup India) all closed for December. The handful of GMVN-affiliated guides will run guided winter expeditions on private requests only — full mountaineering kit, 8-10 day expedition timeline. Sankri GMVN guesthouse (₹1,200/night) remains open through December for the few non-trekker travellers but the trek itself is closed. The Govind NP gate continues to operate but visitor numbers approach zero. The mainstream Har-Ki-Doon trek season reopens in late March.
