If Shivaratri falls in February, the ghats light up with oil lamps and the sangam receives midnight offerings. The pre-dawn aarti, with the river mist rising and lamps reflecting off the confluence, is one of the most intimate religious experiences in Uttarakhand. Without the festival, February Devprayag is simply a small town on a large river — the kind of place where the chai shop owner remembers your order from yesterday because there are maybe four visitors total.
