Nubra Valley in June
Ladakh, India
Go in June — peak season means 10–25°C days, camel dunes are walkable, and Turtuk is fully accessible, but book camps now as demand is high.
June is peak Nubra. Tour groups flood through Khardung La daily. Hunder dunes have camel-ride queues. Temperatures: 10-25°C—warm enough for camping comfort. Turtuk sees its most visitors. The Panamik hot springs are accessible and welcome. Diskit Monastery hosts its annual festival.
The June story
June Nubra at peak is still worth it—the landscape is that extraordinary. The trick is timing: arrive at Hunder by 4 PM when most day-trip groups have headed back to Leh, and you have the dunes to yourself by 5 PM. The sunset light on sand with snow peaks behind is otherworldly regardless of how many people you share it with earlier. Turtuk in June is warm enough for extended village exploration—the polo ground, the royal house (Yabgo dynasty), and the walking trails through terraced apricot orchards. The Diskit Gustor festival (check dates) brings masked dances to the monastery courtyard with the giant Maitreya watching over the proceedings. Panamik hot springs, 50 km north, offer natural thermal bathing with Siachen views. June is maximum Nubra.
