Peak crowds
January is one of Lenyadri's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Peak Oct–Feb for Ganesha pilgrimage season and cooler weather; monsoon Jun–Aug is off-season.
January at Lenyadri runs at the year-best window for the only cave-temple Ashtavinayak. Girijatmaj (the son-of-Parvati form — atmaj means son, Girija is Parvati) sits inside Buddhist Cave 7 of 30 in the Hinayana Manmodi-Junnar cave group (2nd century BCE), making this the only Ashtavinayak inside a rock-cut cave and the only one north-facing among the eight temples. The cave complex sits 307 steps up the basalt face of Manmodi hill in Junnar district, 95km from Pune. Daytime 14-28C, nights 8-10C — the 307-step climb workable any time of day with the basalt holding dry and cool. The ASI-protected Hinayana cave-group context (29 surrounding caves, mostly chaitya halls and vihara monastic cells) sits at year-best photographic clarity. The Junnar valley below visible from the cave-mouth platform. Standard darshan 5am-9pm. Combine with Ozar (10km), Shivneri Fort 12km (Shivaji's birthplace 1630), or both in a single day from Pune. Sankashti Chaturthi early-month standard Tuesday density.
