Peak crowds
January is one of Ranjangaon's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Peak Oct–Mar for temple pilgrimage and cool weather; monsoon months (May–Aug) see very few visitors.
January at Ranjangaon is among the year-best months — and uniquely so. The Mahaganpati temple, the fourth in the traditional Ashtavinayak yatra and the only one of the eight that houses a Maha Ganapati murti (the 10-trunked, 20-armed form, of which only eight examples exist in all India), runs continuous puja at the freshest weather and at its astronomically unique winter-solstice phenomenon. The temple east-facing orientation is calibrated such that through Dec-Jan dawn sunlight passes through the main entrance and strikes directly on the central murti face — a sun-ray darshan window of 8-12 minutes each morning. Pre-dawn pilgrim flow builds for the 6:45-7am sun-ray slot. The vahana is the LION (not the standard mooshik mouse) — unusual among Ganesha temples. The original underground Shivaji-era shrine sits sealed below; the visible structure is the 1790 Madhavrao II Peshwa elevation. Daytime 15-29C. Pune drive 50km/75 min via NH753. Sankashti Chaturthi early month brings standard Tuesday density.
