Kashid in January
Maharashtra, India
Go January — peak Kashid, cleanest Maharashtra beach, water sports and Phansad both running.
Peak crowds
January is one of Kashid's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Weekends from Mumbai are packed. Weekdays nearly empty.
January is Kashid at peak conditions. Often ranked Maharashtra's best beach for sheer sand quality — 3km of clean white sand between Alibaug (30km north) and Murud (30km south) — Kashid sits at 19-30°C with the Arabian Sea calm and a 50%-humidity feel. Weekday calm contrasts with Mumbai-Pune weekend pull; family-oriented infrastructure (banana boat ₹300, jet ski ₹500-1500, parasailing ₹800-1500) runs all day. Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary 12km inland adds a half-day option for leopard tracks and bison. Korlai Portuguese Fort 8km south is a quieter day-walk.
The January story
Drive 135km from Mumbai via NH-66 + SH-97 — 3.5-4 hours, or take M2M ro-ro ferry to Mandwa and drive 50km south (cuts road time by 90 minutes). From Pune 170km via Tamhini-Mulshi-Roha — 4-5 hours. Beach activities run 7am-6pm: banana boat ₹300, jet ski ₹500-1500, parasailing ₹800-1500. Stays: Kashid Beach Resort ₹3500-6500/night, Hotel Sea Shell ₹2500-4500/night, private homestays ₹1800-3500/night. Eat: Hotel Sai Pawan, Kashid Beach Resort restaurant — Malvani fish thali ₹350-550. Day-trips: Korlai Fort 8km south (Portuguese ruin, ₹15 entry), Phansad WLS 12km inland (₹50 entry, jeep safaris ₹2500-4000). Avoid weekend Sunday-afternoon Mandwa ferry queues — return Sunday morning.
