Peak crowds
January is one of Theur's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Pilgrimage temple-town sees steady visits Oct–Feb; monsoon and pre-monsoon heat are low-traffic periods.
January at Theur — the second temple in the traditional Ashtavinayak yatra and the closest to Pune at 25km via Hadapsar — runs at clean operational tempo. Chintamani (the wish-fulfilling-jewel form of Ganesha) sits at the Bhima-Mula-Mutha river sangam in a temple complex that has run continuous Peshwa-lineage worship since 1762. The samadhi of Madhavrao I Peshwa (who died of tuberculosis here on 18 November 1772, aged 27, after spending his final months in retreat at the temple) sits in the inner courtyard; his wife Ramabai performed sati on the same spot the following day, commemorated by a separate memorial chhatri. Daytime 15-28C, nights 10-12C. The 25km Pune drive takes 45 minutes via Hadapsar-Loni Kalbhor; this proximity makes Theur the most-visited Ashtavinayak among single-temple day-trippers from Pune. Sankashti Chaturthi early month brings Tuesday pilgrim density. The Bhima-Mula-Mutha sangam runs at clean post-monsoon flow visible from the temple ghat.
