Kanheri Caves in November
Maharashtra, India
Peak crowds
November is one of Kanheri Caves's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Rock-cut caves visited October–March in cool season. Monsoon and summer (June–September) see minimal visitors.
November is Kanheri's most comfortable month. Daytime 26-30C, nights 18-22C, low humidity (55-65%), zero rain, and Mumbai air clarity at its annual best. SGNP trails are firm and dry; the 1.5km uphill walk to cave 3 feels easy in cool dry air. Tulsi Vivah (Nov 1 2026) and Kartik Purnima (Nov 24) anchor the wider devotional calendar but neither pulls Buddhist-specific traffic to Kanheri. Weekend visitor counts are at annual peak — book Sat-Sun visits with early-morning gate-arrival strategy. Weekday mornings 7:30am-11am remain the calm window. Cave 11 inscription, cave 3 chaitya, cave 41 Avalokiteshvara, cave 90 cistern complex — the full study circuit is comfortable in a single 4-hour visit. Migratory birds (oriental honey buzzard, brahminy starling) appear in SGNP from mid-month.
