Why Special
109 Buddhist caves carved into a basalt outcrop between the 1st century BCE and 11th century CE — the longest continuously-occupied monastic site in western India. Cave 3 is a 26m chaitya hall with twin Buddha figures. The site sits 7km inside Sanjay Gandhi National Park, making this the only major archaeological complex inside an Indian metropolis.
