Mussoorie in April

The April story

April is the last month to experience Mussoorie before the summer invasion rewrites the town's character. Landour is warm enough for leisurely exploration without layering up — the walk from Char Dukan through the old cemetery to Lal Tibba is perfect at 18-20°C. Cloud End, the old British-era estate at the western tip of Mussoorie, is worth the 7 km drive now: the surrounding forest is dense green, the views toward Yamuna valley are unobstructed, and the estate's crumbling Gothic architecture photographs well in afternoon light. Kempty Falls powers up to full flow and weekday visits (under 500 people) are actually enjoyable — a genuine 40-foot waterfall in a forested gorge. On weekends it becomes a human waterpark. Gun Hill ropeway has 20-30 minute queues on Saturdays, walk-on midweek. The Mussoorie lake (Mussoorie Municipal Corporation lake, technically artificial) is pleasant for pedal boating. For day trips, drive 30 km to Dhanaulti — a tiny hill station at 2,250m with deodar forests and zero commercial chaos.
