Mount Abu in January
Rajasthan, India
Go in January—Mount Abu's 10–25°C, absence of crowds, and clear visibility for temple interiors and Guru Shikhar make it Rajasthan's peak season moment.
Peak crowds
January is one of Mount Abu's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Rajasthan's only hill station. Nakki Lake and Dilwara Temples busy in winter. Summer Festival (Jun) draws regional crowds.
January is Mount Abu's coldest month and, for the discerning visitor, its finest. Rajasthan's only hill station sits at 1220m in the Aravalli Range, and winter temperatures of 4-16°C make the desert state's sole elevated retreat feel almost Himalayan. The Dilwara Jain Temples—India's most exquisitely carved marble temples—are virtually empty of tourists. Nakki Lake is still. The Winter Festival sometimes falls in late December/early January.
The January story
The Dilwara Temples are the reason Mount Abu exists as a destination, and January gives you the space to appreciate them properly. Built between the 11th and 13th centuries, the five marble temples contain carvings so intricate they look like lace—some pillars have details that couldn't be replicated by modern machines. The Vimal Vasahi temple's ceiling medallion alone justifies the trip. Photography is banned inside (respect it—guards are vigilant), so you carry the images in your memory instead. Beyond Dilwara, January Mount Abu offers Sunset Point without the sunset-selfie crowds, Guru Shikhar (Rajasthan's highest point at 1722m, 15 km away) in crisp clarity, and Nakki Lake's boating without queues. The Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University, headquartered here, offers meditation sessions year-round. Mount Abu in January proves that Rajasthan is not just desert.
