March at Lonar Crater enters the Vidarbha heat ramp — 20-36°C, dry plateau, the bare-rim circuit fully exposed to morning-to-noon sun with no shade, the lake-descent path heating up after 10am. Mornings until 9am still comfortable. The 1.83 km wide crater bowl reflects heat; the alkaline lake (pH 10-11) at lower level than peak January. The 10th c Chalukyan Daityasudan temple on the rim is still in clear March light. Tourist numbers thin from February. Holi (Mar 3 2026) brings small-scale Marathi village colour in nearby Lonar town.

Front-load the day — leave Aurangabad 5:30am for 3-4 hour drive (145 km, NH-65 + state roads). On rim by 8:30am. Walk the 6 km rim circuit first while air's cool. Descend to lake (1.5 hr down) before 10am. Be back on rim by 11:30am and off-site by noon. AC car return to Aurangabad in afternoon. Or stay overnight at MTDC Lonar Tourist Resort or Hotel Krishna (₹2,000-3,000), do crater dawn-walk Day 2, descend post-monsoon-lake walk before mid-morning heat. Daityasudan temple sheltered carvings still photographable. Sita Nahani ravine has dry late-winter conditions; some bird species still there. Hotels (MTDC, Hotel Krishna) at mid-rates as off-peak Vidarbha begins. Aurangabad connector hotels (Vivanta, Welcomhotel, Lemon Tree) dropping 10-15%. Photography: March early-morning gold-light on crater bowl and Daityasudan temple still excellent. Heat-haze by noon ruins long-shot rim panoramas. Bring 3L water minimum; the alkaline lake is undrinkable.
