Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani Trail: Manali to Gulmarg to Udaipur

# Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani Trail

YJHD (2013) filmed across three of India's most photogenic destinations. The film drove a generation of 20-somethings to Manali and Gulmarg. Here is what you will actually find.

Manali — The Trek Sequences

The Solang Valley snow scenes and the Rohtang Pass sequences. Solang is now a commercial adventure park — paragliding, zorbing, ATV rides. The film's quiet mountain vibe exists only at 6 AM or in October-November when tourists leave.

The trek to Beas Kund (shown as their mountain trek) is still excellent — 3 days, moderate difficulty, ends at a glacial lake. This is the one part YJHD got right. Best: May-June and September-October.

Gulmarg — The Snow Sequences

The iconic snowball fight, the gondola scenes. Gulmarg in December-February is genuinely this beautiful. Phase 1 gondola to Kongdoori is the exact YJHD view. The film undersold it — reality is better than cinema.

Udaipur — The Wedding Sequences

City Palace, Lake Pichola, Jagmandir Island. The wedding venue in the film was Udaipur's Oberoi Udaivilas. You cannot afford to stay there (₹50,000+/night) but the lake views from Ambrai Ghat are free and equally cinematic.

The Full YJHD Circuit

Manali (3 days) → fly Delhi → fly Srinagar → Gulmarg (2 days) → fly Delhi → fly Udaipur (2 days). Total: 7-10 days, ₹40,000-80,000 budget depending on tier. Best months: October for Manali, December for Gulmarg, October for Udaipur.
