Little Andaman in June
Andaman & Nicobar Islands, India
Ferry schedules collapse during monsoon swells, stranding you for days
Little Andaman in June is the southernmost Andaman outpost cut off from the mainland. The directorate of shipping ferry from Phoenix Bay to Hut Bay cancels on most days - the 6-8 hour open-deck crossing through 3-metre swell becomes genuinely unsafe. Surf at Kumari and Butler Bay turns from rideable to dangerous as monsoon storm swell delivers irregular 3-4 metre sets. The White Surf and Whisper Wave waterfall trails flood and become impassable in the steep sections. Hut Bay gets cut off from Port Blair for 5-10 days at a stretch. Power cuts run 8 hours daily. Mobile network is BSNL-only and intermittent. Wait for November.
