Daulatabad Fort in February
Maharashtra, India
Go February — peak window, cool climb, Chand Minar in best Feb light, 40 km summit views.
Peak crowds
February is one of Daulatabad Fort's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Visit early morning to avoid heat. On the way to Ellora — combine both in one day.
February at Daulatabad continues the January peak — 13-30°C, dry Deccan plateau, the conical 200m basalt hill at ideal climbing weather. Cool dry air all the way to the summit Baradari pavilion. Chand Minar (1435 Bahmani, 30m) glows in clear February light. The Andheri dark spiral tunnel — designed by 12th c Yadava engineers to disorient invaders — stays cool inside. Shivaji Jayanti (Feb 19 2026) brings Maratha-cultural energy at Aurangabad-Sambhajinagar 13 km away (Daulatabad itself is non-Maratha, originally Yadava then Tughluq then Bahmani then Nizam Shahi).
The February story
Repeat the January play — Aurangabad 13 km as base, leave 8:30am, on-site 9am at ASI gate. Ticket ₹25 / ₹300. Plan 3-4 hours full ascent. Outer fort with Chand Minar and Bharat Mata temple, rock-cut moat (10m deep), Andheri dark tunnel (strong flashlight essential), then steep climb to summit Baradari. Mendha cannon at summit. 40+ km Deccan views — Aurangabad visible east, Ellora hills 17 km W. February air still cool enough for comfortable descent. ASI guides ₹400-700 for full ascent. Combine with Ellora 17 km W same-day (Ellora closed Tue), or split into Daulatabad-Khuldabad day (Khuldabad 22 km has Aurangzeb's simple roofless tomb 1707 — he died at Daulatabad/Ahmednagar at age 88, his last wishes specified a humble grave). Time Shivaji Jayanti Feb 19 for combined Sambhajinagar-Daulatabad day. Aurangabad hotels at peak — Vivanta, Welcomhotel, Lemon Tree all booking 21+ days ahead. Photography: Feb morning light on Chand Minar and conical hill silhouette at year-best.
