Daulatabad Fort in April
Maharashtra, India
Skip April — bare-rock 200m climb genuinely dangerous; reschedule to Oct-Mar peak window.
April at Daulatabad enters plateau-summer broil — 23-40°C, the conical basalt hill climbing to a near-impossible task in midday heat, the 750+ stone steps from base to summit Baradari pavilion absorbing and radiating heat from 10am onwards. The Andheri dark tunnel stays cool inside (rock insulator) but the exposed path before and after offers no shade. Chand Minar 1435 Bahmani tower viable from the base but the full ascent is heat-stroke territory. Tourist numbers crash. Locals stay home.
The April story
Skip unless forced. If forced — sunrise climb attempt only. Leave Aurangabad 5:30am, gate at 6:30am (note: ASI gate technically opens 9am but the outer fort area is often accessible earlier), Andheri tunnel + Bharat Mata temple + Chand Minar viewing by 8am, off-site by 9am with AC car back to Aurangabad. The summit Baradari is technically reachable but the descent in growing heat (descend 1-1.5 hr) is the danger. Skip summit attempt entirely in April. Photography: Chand Minar still photographable from base; full hill silhouette in April morning gold-light works. Aurangabad hotels at deep off-peak (Vivanta, Welcomhotel, Lemon Tree all 40%+ discounts). Ellora 17 km W has its own April risks (Kailasa courtyard sun-trap). Indoor dining at Aurangabad's Bhoj or Vivanta for lunch. The smart play: reschedule for Nov-Feb when 750+ steps become a pleasant exercise rather than a hazard.
