Daulatabad Fort in October
Maharashtra, India
Go October — window reopens, full 200m climb, 40 km summit views, Chand Minar at peak clarity.
October at Daulatabad is the heritage window returning — 19-32°C, dry post-monsoon Deccan plateau, the conical 200m basalt hill at peak climbing weather. The 750+ ascent steps fully dried, the Andheri dark spiral tunnel clear of water residue, and the summit Baradari pavilion reachable in 1.5-2 hr climb. Chand Minar 1435 Bahmani tower in clear post-monsoon light. The conical hill still shows late green from monsoon. Tourist numbers building from September. ASI hours 9am-5:30pm.
The October story
October opens prime Daulatabad season — 6 months (Oct-Mar) of comfortable fort-climb conditions. Aurangabad 13 km as base — leave 8:30am, gate at 9am. ASI ticket ₹25 Indian / ₹300 foreign. Plan 3-4 hours. Sequence: outer fort (Chand Minar, Bharat Mata temple) → rock-cut moat (10m deep) → Andheri dark tunnel (strong flashlight) → steep ascent → summit Baradari with Mendha cannon → 40+ km Deccan views (Aurangabad city east, Ellora hills 17 km W). Descend 1-1.5 hr. Combine with Ellora 17 km W same-day (Ellora closed Tue) or split with Khuldabad 22 km (Aurangzeb 1707 grave). Dasara Oct 21 anchors Sambhajinagar Maratha-cultural energy but Daulatabad itself stays low-key. Hotels (Vivanta by Taj, Welcomhotel Rama, Lemon Tree) climbing toward Nov-Feb peak. Photography: October golden-hour Chand Minar and conical hill silhouette at peak. ASI guides ₹400-700 for full ascent.
