Agatti Island in June
Lakshadweep, India
Monsoon swells make water activities unsafe and flights cancel frequently in June
June in Agatti is the chain at full lockdown. The southwest monsoon pounds the Arabian Sea with 300-400mm of rainfall across the month, often as 12-hour deluges with sustained 40-knot winds. Alliance Air suspends all Kochi-Agatti scheduled flights from June 1; the runway floods regularly and crosswinds make landing unsafe. Inter-island speedboats are dry-docked; the bigger SPORTS ferries from Kochi (MV Kavaratti, MV Lakshadweep Sea) are also paused. Agatti Island Beach Resort closes from end-May to mid-September for refurbishment and staff break. The few residents in the village wait it out; Lakshadweep Tourism stops issuing tourist permits for June-August dates. The next permit applications open for late-September arrivals. There is no version of the Agatti trip that works in June.
