Peak crowds
January is one of Aalo's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Peak October–January for post-monsoon freshness and winter holidays; monsoon months are quietest.
January in Aalo is the cleanest month of the West Siang year. Daytime 18-22C, nights drop to 7-10C, rainfall under 30mm, mornings begin with low river-mist that lifts by 9am. The Yomgo River Festival runs three days mid-month at the Karbak ground — folk performances from the Galo community, makeshift floating restaurants, paragliding and white-water rafting demonstrations on the Yomgo. Apply for the Inner Line Permit on eilp.arunachal.gov.in 3-4 days before travel; the e-ILP arrives by email and is checked at the Likabali entry gate. The Pasighat-Aalo road (NH-13) is solid, but the 190km drive still takes 7-8 hours via Likabali. Petrol pumps at Likabali, Bagra and Aalo only — fuel up at each. Accommodation runs through Circuit House (₹1,200, book via DC office), Donyi Hango Hotel (₹2,500), and a small homestay grid in Hege village.
