Aalo in February
Arunachal Pradesh, India
February in Aalo is when the Galo highlands run at their most travel-coherent. Daytime 22-24C, nights 9-12C, monthly rainfall around 20mm — the Siang and Yomgo rivers run clear, dive-grade visibility through the rafting reaches between Komkar and Pasighat. Class III-IV runs from the Yomgo confluence are the regional draw. February also opens the onward Aalo-Mechuka run: 180km, 7-10 hours by Tata Sumo (the only sensible vehicle for the unpaved last 110km), gates close on landslide-prone stretches in monsoon but February is the cleanest passage of the year. Inner Line Permit covers Aalo-Mechuka-Tato-Tuting circuit; apply 5-7 days ahead through your tour operator. Petrol stops at Likabali, Bagra, Aalo, Tato. Cellular 4G (Jio, Airtel) holds in Aalo town only — beyond Bagra it goes BSNL-only.
