Peak crowds
December is one of Aalo's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Peak October–January for post-monsoon freshness and winter holidays; monsoon months are quietest.
December in Aalo is the year's driest stretch. Monthly rainfall lands under 20mm, daytime 20-22C, nights drop to 8-10C, skies are largely cloudless above 600m altitude. The Yomgo and Siang run at the cleanest visibility of the year — Class III-IV rafting through the Yomgo confluence is at peak conditions. The Aalo-Mechuka and Aalo-Tato onward circuits are at maximum reliability through the cold-but-dry month. The Galo villages turn into post-harvest gathering season — community kitchens, ceremonial Apong, communal pork roasts. Inner Line Permit applications through eilp.arunachal.gov.in process in 24-48 hours; the e-permit arrives by email. Christmas-New Year sees a small bump in domestic tourists, mostly out of Assam and Meghalaya, but Aalo remains uncrowded compared to the Yomgo Festival peak in January. Donyi Hango Hotel rates run 15-20 percent below January peak. Cellular: BSNL stable in town, Jio/Airtel in patches.
