October is Gangotri's last full month. The temple remains open until Diwali (date varies). Early October offers the year's clearest mountain views and comfortable trekking conditions (2-12°C). The Gaumukh glacier trek is at its most rewarding: clear trails, thin crowds, and the glacier face visible without monsoon cloud. By late October, the town starts evacuating. The Diwali closing ceremony is emotionally charged.

Gangotri में कहाँ रुकें

  • GMVN Tourist Bungalow

    ₹600-1,500/night

One of the few proper accommodations in Gangotri. Rooms are basic but have blankets and hot water buckets. The garden has mountain views. Book through GMVN site — walk-ins risky.

  • Cafe Himalaya

    Main Bazaar, Gangotri · ₹₹

    सिग्नेचरgarden-side veg thali

Best as a mid-morning stop after temple darshan, not dinner — kitchens in Gangotri close early once the bus pilgrims clear out.

  • GMVN Tourist Rest House Gangotri

    GMVN Bhagirathi · ₹₹

    सिग्नेचरaloo paratha with curd

Take breakfast outdoors when the morning sun hits the deck — guests describe aloo parathas with the Bhagirathi roaring into Surya Kund as the table soundtrack. Kitchen slows badly during yatra peak; order 30 min before you want to eat.

  • Saket Restaurant

    Main Bazaar, Gangotri · ₹

    सिग्नेचरlachcha paratha with chutney

The lachcha and stuffed tandoori parathas with house chutneys are the dish locals point first-timers to — heavier than dosa for the cold mornings before the temple aarti.

  • Panchpuri Sadan

    Bhagirathi Temple · ₹

    सिग्नेचरpuri-sabzi-halwa

Closes the moment Gangotri does — usually by Diwali. From November to April the shutter stays down, so don't trust offline guidebooks during winter trips.
