October is Sarahan at its best. Post-monsoon clarity, apple harvest in full swing, the Bhimakali Temple sharp against blue sky and white peaks. Temperatures at 6-18°C are crisp. The Dussehra celebrations at the temple are significant — the Bushahr dynasty has maintained this tradition for centuries. Bird-watching in autumn is excellent. This is the month to prioritise Sarahan.

Government hotel right next to the stunning Bhimakali Temple. Clean rooms, mountain views, and the temple is a 2-minute walk. Best (and almost only) proper option in Sarahan.
सिग्नेचरnorth Indian thali
Walk-up dinner past 9pm risks a closed kitchen — Sarahan shuts early. Order the thali rather than à la carte; the kitchen turns out the set meal far more reliably than starters.

Eat here on the way up rather than coming back down — by evening the rajma pot is often scraped, and Sarahan itself has limited dinner options if you arrive hungry.

Order siddu by 6pm — last batch goes out around 7. The view-side table looks straight at the Bhimakali twin towers at dusk arati.
सिग्नेचरsiddu with ghee
Order the siddu (steamed wheat dumpling stuffed with poppy-seed or walnut paste, served with desi ghee) — it's the local Himachali staple and the kitchen does it well. Service runs slow at peak yatra hours; eat early or late.
