Peak Season
Sarahan in May
Himachal Pradesh, India
May brings tourist season — 14-26°C, comfortable and dry. The Bhimakali Temple sees more visitors but never Shimla-level crowds. Apple orchards are lush and fruiting. The bird-watching trails through deodar and oak forest are excellent. The view from the temple terrace — the Sutlej valley spreading below, Shrikhand Mahadev towering above — is one of Himachal's great panoramas. Hotels fill weekends.
The May story
May Sarahan is comfortable, accessible, and still modest. The Bhimakali Temple sees maybe 50-80 daily visitors versus the thousands at Shimla. The terrace view — looking down the Sutlej valley, across to the Shrikhand range — is arguably Himachal's finest viewpoint. The bird-watching trails through deodar, oak, and rhododendron forest deliver consistently. Kinnauri cuisine appears at local eateries: siddu, aktori, and locally brewed chang. The apple orchards are thick with fruit-in-progress. Hotels at ₹1,500-3,000 for weekends, less midweek. Day trips to Rampur Bushahr (old Bushahr capital, 30km) and Nirath (Sun Temple, 20km) add depth. May is when Sarahan is easiest to visit but least essential — the off-season months are where the magic lives.
