Peak Season
Sarahan in April
Himachal Pradesh, India
April is Sarahan's sweet spot — 10-22°C, apple blossoms everywhere, the Bhimakali Temple framed by pink-white flowers against the Shrikhand range. Bird-watching peaks: western tragopan (extremely rare), Himalayan monal (iridescent), and various warblers fill the surrounding forests. The temple's carved wooden architecture is best appreciated in good weather. Tourist numbers are minimal. This is Sarahan's undiscovered glory month.
The April story
April Sarahan is India's best-kept hill station secret. The Bhimakali Temple surrounded by apple blossoms with the Shrikhand range behind it is genuinely one of the most beautiful compositions in the Himalayas — and there are maybe 20 other tourists in the entire village. The western tragopan sightings peak in April as birds come lower for breeding. The Himalayan monal males display their iridescent plumage in the oak forests. The temple architecture rewards close study: notice the earthquake-resistant wooden frame construction, the silver-worked doors, the stone carving that mixes Hindu and Buddhist motifs. Hotels at ₹1,000-2,500. The temple guesthouse is the atmospheric choice. If you're heading to Sangla/Chitkul, Sarahan is the perfect first night — and many travellers find it the highlight.
