Roads completely snowbound; access impossible without specialized expeditions
February at Khardung La is the deep-winter dead point. Daytime at the pass peaks at -25C, nights drop to -33C, the road from South Pulu to North Pulu remains under deep accumulated snow. BRO crews focus on Leh-Manali highway clearance prep on the lower altitudes; serious work on Khardung La does not begin until March. The Indian Army maintains its essential logistics line through helicopter-served operations. Leh-Nubra travel does not happen in February. The few winter travellers in Leh focus on the Chadar trek on the Zanskar river — Khardung La is not on any February itinerary. Domestic flights to Leh continue when weather permits but the pass-and-Nubra circuit is firmly closed until late May.
