Peak Season
Kasol in May
Himachal Pradesh, India
May is Kasol's other peak month, but hotter and louder than April. Temperatures push 14-28°C — warm enough for T-shirts by day, still pleasant at night. The village is at maximum capacity. Every guesthouse is booked on weekends, every cafe has a wait, and the main strip from the bus stand to the bridge is a slow-moving parade of selfie sticks and Bluetooth speakers. The Parvati River is running high with late snowmelt. Kheerganga is packed — the campsite at the top can have 300+ people on a Saturday night. The Delhi-Chandigarh weekend crowd peaks this month because plains cities are hitting 42°C and Kasol is the closest escape under 30°C.
The May story
If you can handle the volume, May still delivers. The valley is lush, the river is dramatic, and the cafes have their best staff and freshest ingredients because this is money season. The trick is going deeper than the main strip. Cross the bridge to Chalal — even in peak May, the far side of the river has one-third the crowd. The Grahan trek (8km) is a superior alternative to overcrowded Kheerganga: same pine forests, better views, almost no one on the trail. Rasol village is another escape valve — 3km uphill from Kasol, maybe 20 tourists on a busy day versus Kheerganga's 300. Moon Dance and Evergreen have their best vibe when they're full and buzzing. Room rates hit annual peaks: ₹1,500-3,000 for standard rooms, book a week ahead on weekends. The drug scene is maximum-visible. BSNL towers get overloaded on weekends — Jio is more reliable. The honest trade-off: you get peak weather and peak everything-open, but you share it with everyone who had the same idea.
