Peak Season
Kasol in April
Himachal Pradesh, India
April is peak Kasol, and for good reason. Temperatures settle into a perfect 10-24°C range. Every cafe on the strip is open and running full menus — Israeli breakfast, wood-fired pizza, banana pancakes, the whole backpacker-cafe economy at full throttle. The Parvati River runs strong with snowmelt but isn't dangerous. Kheerganga trek is in prime condition: 12km, clear trail, wildflowers starting, hot springs at the top with a proper campsite scene. The village is busy but not suffocating — weekdays still have breathing room. Apple blossoms are in full bloom in the surrounding orchards.
The April story
April Kasol delivers on the promise that draws 200,000+ visitors a year to a village with 1,700 permanent residents. The specific experience: wake up in a riverside guesthouse (₹1,200-2,000/night), walk to Evergreen for eggs and coffee, spend the morning on the Chalal side of the river where it's always quieter, trek Kheerganga if you have two days, eat Israeli street food for dinner, watch the stars come out over the valley. The backpacker social infrastructure is at its best — notice boards, shared taxis to Malana, people trading trek tips. Moon Dance Cafe has live music some evenings. The drug culture is fully visible and unavoidable along the main strip — if this bothers you, stay on the Chalal side where it's significantly less in-your-face. The valley is green, the peaks still have snow, and the light from 4-6 PM turns the whole corridor golden. Weekend crowds from Delhi/Chandigarh are the main downside — the village genuinely strains under Saturday-night volume. Thursday-to-Monday beats Friday-to-Sunday every time.
