The September story
September is Keoladeo's pivot month. The monsoon is ending, the park is full of water and life, and the great migration begins in earnest. Common cranes arrive first — their trumpeting calls announce the season. Ducks begin appearing in increasing numbers: gadwall, shoveler, pintail, teal. Raptors follow: harriers, eagles, and falcons. The resident species are still active from monsoon breeding. This overlap — monsoon residents plus early migrants — creates excellent birding with almost zero competition for sightings. September temperatures (28-34°C) are warm but far better than May. The vegetation is thick, which makes some woodland species harder to spot but gives the park a lush beauty that winter's bare trees lack. September visitors are rare enough that the rickshaw guides give you their undivided expertise.
