Why this collection exists

Ranked strictly by altitude, with opening dates verified against the Border Roads Organisation's annual update. Each pass has a different opening-window risk — some shut as early as October; the highest don't open before July.

How the stops connect

Plan around the opening calendar — Khardung La and Chang La open earliest; Umlingla, Marsimik, Photi La open last. Acclimatise two days in Leh before crossing 5,000 m. AMS is a real risk; the highest passes have no oxygen at the top.
