Why Special

The stay decisions worth flagging in Keylong.
Keylong sits at 3,080m on the Manali–Leh Highway — it functions primarily as an overnight halt, not a destination resort. No major chains operate here. Every property in this market is independent mid-range, government-run, or homestay. April 2026 should see the highway open post-winter closure, but confirm road status before booking: the Rohtang Pass section can remain blocked into late April. Altitude acclimatisation matters — budget an afternoon of rest regardless of where you stay.
Hotel Blue Pine (₹4,000–7,000/night) runs ₹2,000–4,000 more per night than Hotel Tashi Delek (₹2,000–4,000/night). That delta buys you a private balcony over the Bhaga river, rooftop access to monastery and peak sightlines that Tashi Delek's valley-facing balcony can't match, and a newer build without the hard-mattress and aging-structure complaints. If you're staying one night en route to Leh and sleep is the priority, Tashi Delek's mid-range rate is defensible. If you're pausing in Keylong for the landscape itself, Blue Pine's rooftop at dawn is the difference.
Hotel Tashi Delek
We pick Tashi Delek as the experience anchor because it's the most consistently reviewed property in Keylong across 100+ Tripadvisor entries — warm welcome, clean rooms, and a low-seating ethnic dining hall that's the closest thing this town has to a signature meal. At ₹2,000–4,000/night it isn't a bargain play; it's the established mid-market choice with a track record. The panoramic balcony over the Keylong valley is functional, not theatrical — but that's what this town offers.
Hotel Dekyid
We recommend Dekyid for travellers who want hot water, power backup, an on-site restaurant, and a valley-facing room — without paying Tashi Delek rates. Owner Sherab Barongpa's property consistently lands 4.0+ across 50+ reviews on Google and Tripadvisor for cleanliness and staff conduct. At ₹1,500 on the low end, it undercuts Tashi Delek by up to ₹2,500/night for a comparable functional stay. The Lady of Keylong views on clear mornings are a reasonable trade for the slightly basic fit-out.
The Chandrabhaga (HPTDC)
We pick The Chandrabhaga for the location slot because nothing else in this dossier puts you on the Manali–Leh Highway with direct sightlines to Kardang Monastery and four named snow peaks simultaneously. At ₹1,300–2,600/night it's the cheapest view in Keylong. We're not recommending it for the room — government maintenance, heating reliability, and hot water are all reported concerns in 2024–2025 reviews. We're recommending it if your itinerary requires being on the highway at first light and y
Hotel Blue Pine
Blue Pine is the only property in Keylong with a rooftop terrace that frames Shashur Monastery, Drilbu-ri peak, Lady of Keylong, and the Bhaga river in a single sight-line. It's a ~2-year-old build, designed around that view in a way nothing older in town was. Owner Sonam Ji's property draws the 'first proper hotel in the valley' comparison on Tripadvisor for a reason — professional staff, nature-conscious design, and private balconies over the river are genuinely different in a market where mos

Keylong is the administrative headquarters of Lahaul district at 3,080m, sitting at the confluence of the Bhaga and Chandra rivers. It is a Buddhist town with several ancient gompas (monasteries) including the Kardang Monastery across the valley. Keylong is a transit point on the Manali-Leh highway and was historically on the ancient trade route between India and Central Asia.
Warm clothing essential — extremely cold even in summer. Respectful dress at monasteries — cover shoulders and knees, remove shoes inside prayer halls.
Basic restaurants serving North Indian and some Tibetan food. Safe but limited variety. HPTDC hotel restaurant is reliable. Carry snacks if heading onward to Spiti or Leh. Bottled water essential.
- minimal tourist scams — Keylong is a transit town, not a tourist trap
- Taxi operators inflating prices for Leh-bound travelers during peak season — compare multiple quotes
- Fuel stations occasionally short-filling — watch the meter
Very limited. HPTDC hotel may accept cards. Most everything is cash-only. One ATM (SBI) that can run out. This is the last ATM before Leh if going north. Carry maximum cash.
low — government offices speak some English. Market vendors speak Hindi and Lahauli. Limited English even at hotels.
