July is the heart of Velavadar's 4-month monsoon closure — the lesser florican monsoon breeding season is at peak (males perform 1-second courtship leaps above tall grass), but visitor access is forbidden to protect breeding. The Blackbuck Lodge maintains skeleton operations; Blackbuck Safari Lodge usually closed through monsoon. Slow travellers using Bhavnagar as the Saurashtra-circuit base (55km away) can do the Nilambag Palace heritage stay without including Velavadar. The Palitana climb (50km from Bhavnagar) remains closed monsoon (Chaturmas Jain pilgrimage closure) — so the July east-Saurashtra circuit reduces to Bhavnagar city heritage only. Wait for October-March for Velavadar.
