Sinthan Top in March
Jammu & Kashmir, India
March keeps Sinthan Top locked. Temperatures begin rising at lower elevations but the pass at 3,748m remains under snow. Avalanche risk is highest in March as warming destabilizes snow packs. The road clearance operation hasn't started yet. The meadows below (around Daksum) may start showing green patches at lower altitude.
The March story
Still no access. March is planning month. The Sinthan Top drive is increasingly appearing on adventure travel lists — it was featured in multiple Indian travel publications in 2023-24. The key logistics: hire a vehicle in Srinagar or Anantnag, stay overnight at Daksum (forest rest house, ₹800-1,500), cross the pass early morning, descend to Kishtwar by afternoon. Alternatively, return to Anantnag for a round trip. The pass has no fuel station, no food stall, no phone signal at the top. Carry everything. The experience is the emptiness — this is a mountain pass that tourism hasn't yet processed.
