Peak Season
Sinthan Top in June
Jammu & Kashmir, India
June opens Sinthan Top reliably. The road from Anantnag through Daksum to the pass is typically clear. Temperatures at the top hover around 5-15°C even in June. The meadows begin their transformation — green spreading upward from the valleys. Snow patches remain at the pass, creating a dual-season landscape. The Kishtwar side drops dramatically into warmer terrain. This is India's newest high-altitude driving experience.
The June story
June is when Sinthan Top delivers. The drive from Daksum to the pass — 40km of climbing through progressively thinning forest to open meadow — takes 2-3 hours and every kilometre changes the view. The pass summit is stark and magnificent: a flat meadow at 3,748m with 360-degree views. On a clear June morning, you see the Kashmir Valley, the Pir Panjal range, the Greater Himalayan peaks, and the Chenab Valley simultaneously. The road quality is basic but functional — BRO maintains it during the open season. The descent to Kishtwar is steeper, drier, and warmer — you drop into a different world. June's advantage: snow patches remain for dramatic photography, wildflowers are starting, and tourist numbers are close to zero. You might be the only vehicle at the pass. Carry fuel, food, water, and warm layers. The wind at 3,748m in June can chill fast.
