Srinagar in June
Jammu & Kashmir, India
Go in June — Srinagar offers genuine relief from plains heat at moderate altitude with lake photography and heritage walks in bloom, though expect crowds and occasional afternoon rain.
Peak crowds
June is one of Srinagar's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Tulip Festival (Apr) is insanely crowded. Winter is magical but cold. Check security situation before booking.
June brings pre-monsoon warmth (18-30°C) and the last window of reliable dry weather before July rains. Srinagar gets humid — not unbearable but noticeably sticky compared to spring. Tourist numbers hold at around 100,000 as families finish summer holiday trips. Cherries and apricots flood the markets. The Amarnath Yatra registration period heats up. Dal Lake lotus flowers are in full bloom — massive pink carpets across the water.
The June story
June is the lotus month on Dal Lake, and there is nothing quite like a dawn shikara ride through acres of pink lotus flowers. The floating gardens (rad) where locals grow vegetables on lake weeds are lush and surreal. Cherry season peaks — a kilo of dark Kashmiri cherries costs Rs 100-150 in Srinagar (Rs 400+ in Delhi). Late June brings the occasional thunderstorm but mornings are mostly clear. The Mughal Gardens have roses at peak, and Chashme Shahi (the smallest, quietest garden) is particularly lovely with fewer tourists. The road to Sonmarg is in perfect condition for Thajiwas Glacier visits. Gulmarg meadows are carpeted with wildflowers. Hotel rates drop 15-20% from May. This is the last comfortable month before monsoon disruptions — locals call it the "golden window." Full hospital access, strong 4G throughout the valley.
