Phodong is a small monastery village on the North Sikkim highway about 28 km north of Gangtok, on the way to Mangan. Its early-18th-century Phodong Monastery, one of Sikkim's major Nyingma gompas, is known for its old murals, and a short walk leads to the linked Labrang Monastery.
