Nalsarovar Bird Sanctuary in October
Gujarat, India
October is the smart shoulder — building bird density at pre-peak rates. Full peak in November.
October in Nalsarovar is the autumn shoulder. Daytime 20-33C, migratory birds starting to arrive (flamingos and pelicans building through the month), wetland levels high post-monsoon, and boat operations back in full rhythm. Smart pre-peak window.
The October story
October is Nalsarovar's autumn shoulder. The southwest monsoon has fully retreated, daytime temperatures sit 20-33C, wetland levels are high post-monsoon (better than January-February lows for boat operations through the deeper channels), and migratory bird arrivals build through the month. Flamingo numbers climb from late-September early-arrivals to early-peak by mid-October, and pelican flocks return in meaningful density. Resident species also rebuild after monsoon dispersal. Dawn boats from Vekaria Gate operate at full rhythm from 5:30am, and the Forest Department boat schedule returns to standard frequency. Visamo Nalsarovar Resort and Club Azzurro Resort return to standard operations at pre-peak rates. The Padhar tribal homestays at full availability. The combination with Velavadar Blackbuck NP (145 km southeast) begins working as the early-October Velavadar reopening (post-monsoon park closure ends October 15) overlaps with the migrant build-up. For travellers wanting meaningful birding without November-February peak rates, October is the smart shoulder. For peak-density priorities, three more weeks delivers the full experience.
