Murud-Janjira in February
Maharashtra, India
Go February — peak Murud-Janjira window, boats running every 30 min, fort and beach both at best.
Peak crowds
February is one of Murud-Janjira's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Never really crowded. Best combined with Alibaug or Kashid as a 2-day trip.
February maintains January's peak Murud-Janjira conditions. Temperatures hold 19-31°C, the Arabian Sea stays calm, Rajapuri jetty boats run their winter schedule 9am-5pm with shared (₹50-100 RT) and private (₹500-1500) options, and the 30-minute crossing to Janjira Fort is at its glass-calmest. The fort's 22 nawabs' history, 19 bastions, Persian-Arabic inscriptions, and freshwater wells reward a full afternoon. Murud beach's 6km strip is at its visual best; Datta Mandir's 168-step climb is comfortable in 19°C morning air. Weekdays calm, weekends bring Mumbai-Pune road-trippers.
The February story
Drive 165km from Mumbai via NH-66 — 4-5 hours including the Mandwa-Murud stretch. Rajapuri jetty 4km from Murud town; boats 9am-4:30pm last return. Shared ₹50-100 RT, private ₹500-1500. ASI fort entry ₹15. Allow 2-3 hours on the fort — the Pansacha Hauj freshwater tank, the cannons, the 22m Surul-bastion sea views. Datta Mandir sunrise climb 6:30am-8am — the 168 steps lead to a temple with full view across to Janjira (Mahad-Datta panorama). Murud beach 6km strip, MTDC resort and private stays ₹2500-9000/night. Eat: Hotel Patil Khanawal, Annapurna Boarding House — Malvani fish thali ₹250-400, sol kadhi mandatory. Combine with Kashid (30km north) or Diveagar (50km south) for a 3-day Konkan beach circuit. Book weekends 1-2 weeks ahead, especially Feb 14 weekend.
